(FREDERICTON, NB) Payton Hargreaves (Whitby, ON) and Tamina Kehler (Chilliwack, BC) each had a goal and an assist to lead the UNB REDS to a 2-0 win over l'Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues on Friday night.

Hargreaves and Kehler scored 97 seconds apart, assisting on each other's goal.

"It feels really good, especially coming off last weekend where we didn't have a good start to the weekend, so I think the energy from the last game, against Mount A, carried into today and it was really good to see everyone going," said Hargreaves, named Subway Player of the Game.

Kendra Woodland (Kamloops, BC) made 16 saves in the UNB net for her first shut-out of the season.

"I think every single time we can get a W on our board it's amazing," said Woodland. "This team is going to achieve great things and this is just the start of it."

Audrey Berthiaume (St-Bruno, QC) was strong in the Moncton net, despite surrendering the loss, making 22 saves on 24 shots.

After a back-and-forth first period, the REDS showed a bit of jump to start the second.

As they continued to build momentum, Marley Van Den Oetelaar (Whitby, ON) was able to thread a crisp pass to Hargreaves, who was left unchecked beside the Moncton net.

"I went back door and it was a really nice feed from Marley," said Hargreaves. "She almost faked me out too, she's very deceptive. She gave me a really good pass."

After a shift on the bench, Hargreaves and her line returned to the ice.

At the 13:07 mark of the second, she sent the puck out front to an unattended Kehler, who easily beat Berthiaume high to the glove side.

"We had really good forechecks and we were talking really well and were positive on the bench, and I think that came to the ice," said Hargreaves.

Despite holding the REDS to just two goals, Moncton coach Marc-André Côté was disappointed with the result.

"We gave it away," he said. "In the second period we had a couple of breakdowns that we had talked about in between periods. It sucks that it happened that way."

"We've got a young group, they still have to put a lot of milage on, but it's no excuse. They're here to do a job and tonight they didn't get it done, period," said Côté.

With the win, the REDS improve to 7-1-0-1 and are tied for first in the Atlantic University Sport standings.

Moncton is now 3-5-0-1, good for 6th place.

Les Aigles Bleues return home to host St. Thomas on Saturday night, while the REDS welcome UPEI to the Aitken Centre. Both games are scheduled for 7:00pm starts.
