Reds top Huskies in men's soccer

(HALIFAX, N.S.)—The UNB Reds defeated the SMU Huskies 4-1 on Saturday night in Atlantic University Sport men's soccer action from Huskies Stadium.

Both teams were scoreless after 45 minutes, with UNB outshooting Saint Mary's 6-1 in the half.

UNB opened the scoring in the second half in the 58th minute when fifth year midfielder Ben Gorringe (Mount Uniacke, NS) found a turnover inside SMU's 18-yard box and made a nice play on the ball with his left foot for a 1-0 Reds lead.

Keji Adeniyi added his first career AUS goal in the 70th minute when the London, England native scored on a deflection off the post for 2-0 UNB lead.

One minute later in the 71st, striker Tristan Nkoghe (Sherbrooke, QC) scored on a loose ball from a UNB corner kick.

Gorringe added his second of the match in the 87th minute.

Defender Cameron Zinn (Bridgewater, NS) scored in the 90th minute for Saint Mary's, who have lost four in a row and sit at 4-4 in conference play.

UNB outshot SMU 12-4 in the half and 18-5 for the match.

Goalie Evan Barker (Winnipeg, MB) made three saves in the win for UNB while Kerry Michelin made eight saves in the loss for Saint Mary's.

A chippy match, UNB had 13 fouls compared to nine for SMU.

UNB improves to 3-2-2 on the year.

Both teams return to action next week with SMU visiting the Dal Tigers in the Halifax Derby on October 3rd at 7:15 p.m. at the Wanderers Grounds.

Acadia travels to Fredericton October 5th for a 3:15 p.m. match versus UNB.
