Ridgebacks offence unable to solve Moran in opening weekend

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech University men's hockey team lost both games of a weekend back-to-back with the Nipissing Lakers by identical 4-1 scores.

Like the first game, Ontario Tech forced the play into the Lakers zone and produced a handful of quality chances. With all the pressure, the Ridgebacks still found themselves down 1-0 after the first 20 minutes of play.

They maintained intensity throughout the final 40 minutes and were able to briefly tie the game 1-1 in the second period. Although having over 40 shots on net, the Ridgebacks couldn't solve a hot Lakers goalie.

"We had a tough weekend here, no doubt about it," said head coach Curtis Hodgins. "We ran into a team that played really hard against us and had a really hot goalie. We just couldn't buy one this weekend. It's over now, we've got to put it behind us and have to get ready for another tough opponent on Wednesday."

The Ridgebacks are back home Wednesday when they host the reigning Queen's Cup champions Queen's Gaels at Campus Ice Centre.
  • Jacob Collins scored twice for the Lakers, both on the power play, with his first tally opening the scoring at 11:03. He then gave the Lakers a 3-1 lead at 18:25 of the second.
Austin Eastman (Lindsay, Ont.) tallied for the Ridgebacks after taking a pass from Jake Bricknell (Port Perry, Ont.) to bury the two-on-one rush at 13:46 of the second. Credited with the secondary assist on the Ridgebacks goal, Ryan Cullen (Ottawa, Ont.) recorded his first OUA point. • Gael Lubwele scored under a minute after Eastman to retake the lead for the Lakers.
Matt Paul made it 4-1 for the Lakers at 6:02 of the third period.
Michael Bullion (Anchorage, Alaska) stopped 22 shots in the loss.
• Brett Moran recorded 45 saves in the win.
  Overall Record: 2-4-0
Conference Record: 0-2-0
