Three-goal second half lifts Ridgebacks to victory over Excalibur

OSHAWA, Ont. – Despite an early second-half scare, the Ontario Tech University men's soccer team had a dominant second half as they defeated the Trent Excalibur 5-2 on Sunday afternoon.

The Ridgebacks opened the scoring with Fadi Salback (Bowmanville, Ont.) burying his first of two in the match in the sixth minute. Jean Paul Ajala-Alexis (Oshawa, Ont.), who assisted on the opening goal, had Salback return the favour in the 19th minute as he was setup and beat Evan McLeod, who couldn't tame his shot.

Trent did bounce back with 40th and 52nd minute goals by Jordan Hembruff and Raiden Ramdial to tie the match 2-2, but the Ridgebacks offence took over from there.

Salback finished on a Christopher Campoli (Woodbridge, Ont.) pass in the 69th minute to score his second of the match. On a free kick in the 76th minute Ajala-Alexis did all the work himself as he wrapped the ball around the Excalibur wall and into the top corner.

To end the match Campoli setup Cameron Galea-Andrews (Etobicoke, Ont.) for his first of the season.

Matthew Mattila (Pickering, Ont.) earned his first OUA victory in goal for Ontario Tech, while McLeod made two saves in the Excalibur loss.

Next weekend the men's soccer team has a single match as they face the Carleton Ravens on Sunday night in Ottawa.
  Overall Record: 3-2-4 (W-L-D)
Conference Record: 3-1-4

Next Match: Sunday, Sept. 29 @ Carleton Ravens (8 p.m. – Ottawa, Ont.)
