Soccer squads win exhibition games in Charlottetown

Charlottetown, PE - The StFX soccer teams had a productive trip to PEI on Monday when they downed the Panthers squads in exhibition action.

It was an early 12 o'clock post-time for the women's game but the X-Women were quick out of the gate and galloped to a 4-1 win over the hometown Panthers. 

Defender Abby Steen (Stittsville, ON) opened the scoring and rookie midfielder Meghan Cole (Moncton, NB) scored her first X goal to double the STFX lead. Defender Emma Steen (Stittsville, ON) was next to find the mark for the X-Women. Hannah Yantha (Cambridge, ON) rounded out the scoring for the impressive X-Women as all goals were score in the opnieng half. 

Braylan MacEachern (Montague, PEI) scored the lone marker for the Panthers.

Jordyn Pratt (Calgary, AB) and Christina Gentile (Laval, QC) shared the victory in the X-Women net.

Next up on the pre-season schedule for the X-Women is a game against Cape Breton University on Saturday, September 3rd at 1:00 pm in Antigonish.

The X-Men continued their winning ways against the UPEI Panthers also Monday afternoon. X-Men centreback Lewis Dye (Fall River, NS), provided the game's lone goal in the 65th minute. 

Sam Diltz (Newmarket, ON), Will Veinot (Bedford, NS), and Jae Jeon (Montreal, QC) all saw time in the X net and shared the shutout.

The X-Men will travel to Halifax on Friday, September 2nd to play Saint Mary's at 2:00 pm to round out their pre-season exhibition matches.

The AUS regualr season opens on Friday, September 9th. StFX will host Acadia in a doubleheader at 5:00 and 7:15 pm at STFX Stadium.
