OTTAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech University women's soccer team was 14 minutes from earning three points and tying the Trent Excalibur for the final playoff spot in the OUA east, but Jordyn DeAveiro helped the Carleton Ravens spoil the Ridgebacks night with a 1-1 draw.
Leah Storms (Dunrobin, Ont.) notched her first OUA goal to open the scoring for Ontario Tech in the 54
th minute of the match, but DeAveiro tied the match in the 76
th minute to leave a bitter taste in the Ridgebacks mouths.
Alicia Chisholm (Woodbridge, Ont.) made five saves in the draw for Ontario Tech, while Sophie Ehlebracht made one for the Ravens.
The Ridgebacks have five matches remaining in conference play, with their next against the last-place RMC Paladins on Saturday at home.
With a 2-5-2 record Ontario Tech has eight points and are two points back of the Trent Excalibur for the sixth and final playoff spot. Luckily for the Ridgebacks they are home for four of their final five matches and can use those matches to control their own fate as they face Trent, Nipissing and Laurentian – all teams that are battling for the final playoff positions.
Kick off on Saturday against the Paladins is scheduled for 1 p.m.
