HALIFAX, N.S. - The Saint Mary's Huskies fell, snapping a four-game win streak to the U SPORTS top ranked UNB REDS 1-0 on Saturday afternoon, at the Dauphinee Centre in Halifax.

Just over three minutes into the first period the Huskies penalty kill went to work as they successfully killed off a tripping penalty taken by Miranda Hatt (Regina, SK).

The first period saw a battle of the goaltenders as Huskies rookie goaltender Ridleigh Hansen (Red Deer, AB) stood tall stopping everything the REDS threw at her. At the other net saw Kendra Woodland (Kamloops, BC) also not backing down as she continued to stop the mounting pressure from the Huskies.

The Huskies outshot the REDS 14-7 in the first period and went into the first intermission tied 0-0.

At just over 4 minutes into the second period the Huskies powerplay went to a 5-on-3 player advantage. While the Huskies tried to take advantage of their powerplay, only Maddy Corbett (Sydney, NS) came close ringing on a hard shot off the crossbar.

The REDS jumped on a chance later in the period with Melanie Drost (Nepean, ON) coming in on a breakaway but Hansen was there with a beautiful glove save to keep the game tied 0-0.

At just under halfway through the first period saw both teams have opportunities to take the lead, with REDS fowrard Payton Hargeaves (Whitby, ON) taking a quick shot from the slot only to be stopped by Hansen.

Kara MacLean (Antigonish, NS) looking to bring get on the board for Huskies with a breakaway chance but was poke checked by Woodland to keep the game tied.

As the teams headed into the second intermission, still tied 0-0, the Huskies outshot the REDS 20-9 with forward Shae Demale (Red Deer, AB) having 9 shots herself.

The first half of the third period saw both teams come out strong, with the Huskies jumping on every opportunity they could however Woodland was always there to make the stop.

With 8: 52 left in the third period, in a flurry of activity in front of the net the puck found its way from Frederike Cyr (Candiac, QC) and Hargreaves to Mackenzie Keenan (Midhurst, ON) who netted her first goal of the season putting the UNB Reds on the score board to lead the game 1-0.

The Huskies pressed for the equalizer, but Woodland continued her outstanding play in goal, and the final whistle blew with the REDS taking it 1-0.

Woodland was named Subway Player of the Game stopping 41 shots for the shutout. Huskies goaltender Hansen stopped 19 shots.
