The Memorial Sea-Hawks were able to open their first home game of the season with a win against the Capers, 95-83.
After losing their first two games of the regular season, the Hawks started their home opener firing on all cylinders. They were able to put up 33 points in the first ten minutes, a very impressive scoring campaign. Under the new guidance of Ian Coultas in his first home game, the Hawks looked fresh and ready for a strong season.
The Capers, on the other hand, were slow to start, lacking any consistent rhythm throughout the first two frames. Three Capers were able to boost Cape Breton in the first half: Osman Omar (15 points), Jason Callaghan (11 points), and Chris Ruta (10 points). For the Hawks, Cole Long was consistent as ever leading Memorial with (14 points).
The third quarter was a grind for both teams. CBU was able to trim the lead that MUN established in the first. Despite the numerous whistles on both ends, Memorial was able to keep their lead heading into the final frame. The Hawks took a blow in the third losing Daniel Foo, a seasoned veteran, to an apparent injury. It remains unclear whether Foo will play in tomorrow's contest.
The final frame had the Hawks solidify their win after a tough third quarter. The Hawks were guided by Cole Long's dominating performance, finishing with 35 points and 14 rebounds; he also earned player of the game commendations. The CAPERS tip-off again tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 pm. Both games are available online at austv.ca.
