Tigers win first game of the regular season

The men's soccer team got their first win of the regular season Friday night with a 3-2 victory over the Aigles Bleus in Moncton, NB.

It was a rough game at the onset with a total of nine yellow and two red cards assessed over the course of the game. The Tigers earned five of those yellow and one red to Abdelrahman Abu Osba (Halifax, N.S.), forcing the Tigers to play with just 10 on the field for half of the game.

Moncton was on the scoreboard first with a goal from Jean-Michel Dako just six minutes into the game.

Dal responded with consecutive goals from fifth-year midfielder Quinn Park (Calgary, Alta.) in the 26th minute and first-year midfielder Obaid Hedayat's (Halifax, N.S.) three minutes later.

They headed into the lockerroom with a 2-1 lead.

The Tigers opened up their lead three minutes into the second half with a goal from fourth-year defender Jeff Arkin (Bedford, N.S.), giving them a 3-1 lead until Moncton's Héritier Masimengo scored their second of the match.

That would do it for scoring, giving the Tigers a 3-2 final victory. Third-year keeper Ben Grondin (Clagary, Alta.) got the win for the Tigers after turing away five of seven of Moncton's shots on goal. Bekkers was named the Subway Player of the Game.

The Tigers host the Acadia Axemen Sunday afternoon in their home opener pending Hurricane Dorian.
