SUDBURY, Ont. - The Ontario Tech University women's soccer team had their Sunday afternoon spoiled as the Laurentian Voyageurs battled back from two goals down to draw 2-2 in an OUA east division clash.
The Ridgebacks offence exploded at the start of the contest with Ontatio Tech netting two goals against Laurentian in the opening 20 minutes. Recording her first career OUA goal, first-year midfielder
Brogyn Tracey (Milton, Ont.) opened the scoring for the Ridgebacks in the 13th minute. Seven minutes later it was
Sarah Foster (Oshawa, Ont.) notching her first goal of the season to put Ontario Tech ahead 2-0 early.
However, trouble started for the Ridgebacks in the 32nd minute when starting goalkeeper
Olivia Tierney (King City, Ont.) drew a red card, placing Ontario Tech into a scenario of playing with just 10 players for the remainder of the match.
The Ridgebacks defence stood tall for the rest of the opening half, but in the 50th minute Amanda Cuthbert scored for the Voyageurs to make it a 2-1 score line. Then in the final minute it was Kaylee Spridgeon scoring the game-tying goal to secure a point for the home team in the Sunday afternoon match.
Tierney made one save in the opening 30 minutes, while
Alicia Chisholm (Woodbridge, Ont.) made five stops after replacing the starting keeper following the red card. Jocelyne Way recorded four saves in net for the Voyageurs.
Ontario Tech next faces off with the Toronto Varsity Blues in Toronto on Friday, Sept. 13. The contest is scheduled to kick-off at 6 p.m.
