Rookies Lead the Way as Tommies Take Down Mounties

The Mount Allison Mounties lost 4-0 to the AUS defending champion St. Thomas Tommies on Seniors Day in Sackville on Sunday afternoon. The Mounties were celebrating graduating seniors Rhiannon Ford (Oakville, ON), EmmaRae Murphy (Petitcodiac, NB) and Maddy Koughan (Mermaid, PEI).

 

The Tommies got on the board early as Isabella Thomson-Fiddes redirected a shot from Paige Jackson past Mounties goaltender Bianca Zak just over 3 minutes into the game.  The Tommies took a 1-0 lead to the locker room at the end of the first period after a 7-6 shot advantage in the opening frame.

 

The lead was extended to 2-0 when Jacey Dane scored 6 minutes into the 2nd period on a scoring play assisted by Megan Pardy.  The score would stay this way until late in the 3rd period when St. Thomas scored the game's first power play goal. Lauren Legault picked up the power play goal to make it 3-0 for the visitors. Erin Arsenault rounded out the scoring with 3 and a half minutes remaining.

 

Bianca Zak made 26 saves on 30 shots for the Mounties while Marandee Hunter stopped all 19 shots she faced to pick up the shutout.

 

The Mounties return to action on Wednesday, January 29th when they travel to Halifax to play Saint Mary's.  The Tommies host StFX on Friday, January 31st.
