Mounties Men’s Soccer lose home opener to St. FX
(SACKVILLE, NB) In the first and only meeting of the season the Mount Allison Mounties hosted the St. FX X-Men at Alumni Field.
St. FX threw everything at the Mounties defense in the 1st half but were unable to find the back of the net until the 24th minute when X-Men winger Cameron Shaw (Ottawa, ON) netted the first goal of the game. An unfortunate injury to Paul-Germain Togbo (Hamburg, DEN) saw the Mounties have to make a change at center-back as they brought on 1st year Cole Fisher (Fall River, NS).
The Mounties struck back early in the 2nd half to even the score after a goaltending mistake created the opportunity for Tevin Lewis (Nassau, BAH) tied up the game. St. FX would not let this deter them as they were awarded a penalty in the 67th minute after Samuel Barrowcliffe (Princeton, ON) was pulled down in the box. X-Men captain Lewis Dye (Fall River, NS) stepped up to the spot and gave his team the lead. St. FX would add goals from Kyle Cordeiro (Oakville, ON) and former Mountie Ziad Abdelrahman (Toronto, ON) to bring the score to 4-1.
The Mounties (0-3-0) host the Saint Mary's Huskies tomorrow at 3:15 p.m. at Alumni Field.
St. FX. (3-0-0) will travel to UPEI to take on the Panthers at 3:15 p.m.
