(HALIFAX, NS) - The Tigers beat the UPEI Panthers 6-3 Saturday night, at the Halifax Forum to seal their first victory of the season.

The Panthers beat StFX X-Men last night 4-3 but failed to solidify the back-to-back win for the weekend.

Second-year forward, Shaun Miller (Enfield, NS) secured an early lead for the Tigers, firing away his first goal of the season less than a minute into the first period with a beautiful assist from Christian Huntley (Halifax, NS).

After a 2-minute penalty to UPEI for too many players on the ice, TJ Shea (Tignish, PEI) tied it up for the Panthers at around 12 minutes.

Logan Johnston (Fredericton, NB) wrestled back the lead, scoring the second Tigers goal, on the powerplay.

Late into the first period, Troy Lajeunesse (Dokis, ON) tied it back up when he won the faceoff to score the second goal for the Panthers at eighteen and half minutes.

Matt Green (Hammonds Plains, NS) scored for the Tigers with a powerplay goal in the dying minutes of the period.

To finish it off, Robert-Tye Rice (Invermere, BC) of the Panthers tied the game again, just as the final horn of the period was to blow.

With a back and forth in the first period, 6 total goals were scored.

Going into the second period with a 3-3 tie, the Tigers solidified their defense to hold a shutout for the rest of the game. Green scored his second goal of the game at 6 and half minutes in and two minutes later, Philippe Casault (Halifax, NS) with the fifth, assists from Zak Smith (Austin, MB) and Scott Gaetz (Mississigua, ON).

The final Tigers goal was an empty net goal scored late into the third period by Dillon Boucher (Head Chezzetcook, NS) to solidify the Tigers victory.

Tigers goalie Alex MacDonald was named the Subway Player of the Game for backstopping the Tigers to their first victory of the season.

Both teams return to action next Friday at 7 pm. The Tigers will head over to Moncton to play the Aigles Bleus at 7 pm. The Panthers will return home to play the Saint Mary's Huskies.
