Rams settle for draw against RMC

TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams women's soccer team drew the Royal Military College (RMC) Paladins 0-0 Saturday afternoon in a physical match at Allan Lamport Stadium.

The draw, Ryerson's third on the season, keeps the team undefeated, although the Rams (0-0-3) find themselves winless as well.

"It was a disappointment," said 2009 OUA all-star forward Calaigh Copland.  "We were going for the three points.  I'm quite upset with the result."

The Rams controlled most of what turned out to be a very physical game, with the smaller Ryerson players getting involved with the noticeably bigger RMC (0-2-1) squad.

"[They] were big, strong, and tough ... we had to play physical," said midfielder and three-time OUA all-star Andrea Raso, who was issued a yellow card.  She added that while most of the experienced players knew what to expect, some of the rookies were caught off guard by RMC's style of play.

While Raso received the only yellow card for Ryerson, both Samantha Beckett and Stephanie Bengle got yellow cards for the Paladins.

Possession wise, the Rams had a relatively easy time getting the ball up the field, but came up short on their chances, the closest coming in the 18th minute when RMC full-back Lyndsay Cross saved a ball on the goal line.

Interim head coach Ramin Mohammadi said he still thought his players played a good game, highlighting that his team was never in serious trouble, thanks to tight defending and a solid midfield effort.

With another game scheduled for tomorrow against No. 4 ranked Queen's University, the Rams don't have very much time to work on their mistakes.  Coach Mohammadi has scouted Sunday's opposition and the players are looking forward to the challenge.

"I'm expecting the Ryerson Rams tomorrow," said goalkeeper Stefanie Webster. "Today we were off our game, but tomorrow we'll be out in full force and hopefully come out on top.  That's the faith I have in my girls."

A chance at redemption and the first win of the season goes Sunday afternoon at 1pm, at Allan Lamport Stadium.
