Ridgebacks lose heartbreaker on buzzer beater

OSHAWA, Ont. – Sidney Crawford's buzzer beater handed the Ontario Tech women's basketball team a heartbreaking 63-62 loss in the final home game of their inaugural season on Saturday night.

Bilan Khadar (Ottawa, Ont.) led the Ridgebacks with 15 points in the loss, while it was Katherine Onunkwo (Ajax, Ont.) finishing with 10 and 12 for her first career double-double.

The one-point loss comes against the same squad they made their OUA debut against in October, a game they lost by 20 points to in Sudbury.

"The girls have grown tremendously from the first league game that we played at Laurentian," said head coach Christa Eniojukan. "Today we controlled the majority of the game and fell a point short the buzzer. It's a heartbreaker, but I am immensely proud of our effort."

The one-point loss comes after a 72-64 loss to the Nipissing Lakers on Friday night. Khadar and Vanessa Budimunda (Montreal, Que.) each finished with 14 points to lead the Ridgebacks, while Budimunda also had a career-high 19 rebounds.

Ontario Tech's inaugural season comes to a close this week with a Wednesday night game at York before travelling to Thunder Bay on the weekend to face the Lakehead Thunderwolves.

  Overall Record: 1-22
Conference Record: 1-19
