WOLFVILLE, N.S. — Peyton Hoyt's overtime goal lifted Acadia to a 4-3 victory over Dalhousie in AUS men's hockey action on Tuesday night at Andrew H McCain Arena in front of 1,071 fans.
Acadia (1-0) opened the scoring in the first period with Brady Burns netting a power-play goal, followed by Kian Bell's marker to give the Axemen a 2-0 lead. Dalhousie (0-1) responded in the second period, as Brody Fournier and Barret Kirwin scored to tie the game 2-2.
Fournier struck again in the third to put Dalhousie ahead, but Acadia's Hoyt netted his first goal late in the period to force overtime. Hoyt then sealed the win with his second goal of the night.
Hoyt was named the game's first star, while Dalhousie's Robbie Forbes and Acadia's Burns earned second and third stars, respectively.
Acadia outshot Dalhousie 63-18 and went 1-for-2 on the power play, while Dalhousie was 0-for-3.
The Axemen now travel to Quebec for a pair of games, first againsts McGill on Friday before UQTR on Saturday.
