Aigles Bleus shutout Huskies 2-0

The Saint Mary's Huskies were unable to solve the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus defence, losing 2-0 on Sunday afternoon in Moncton.

Coming off a hard fought 1-0 win over the UNB REDS on Saturday, the Huskies were looking to win their fourth straight game on Sunday.

The Huskies had the first chance of the match, when forward Youssef Lakhal (Tunis, Tunisia) struck a powerful volley off of a corner kick, but Moncton goalkeeper Christian Masimengo (Dieppe, NB) made an impressive diving save.

It was the Aigles Bleus who created some separation early, as in the 17th minute, forward Mohamed Lamine Touré (Moncton, NB) took a nice pass from midfielder Lionel Feval (Rivière Salée, Martinique) and fired a left footed strike past diving Huskies goalkeeper Ryan Davis (Lake Loon, NS) to give the home team a 1-0 lead.

In the 58th minute, the Aigles Bleus doubled their lead, after a collision in midfield led to a quick counterattack, and Lamine Touré scored his second of the game.

Several tremendous saves by Davis helped keep the Huskies within striking distance, as the second year keeper was credited with seven saves on the afternoon.

The Huskies offence, which had scored a combined eight goals over their previous three games, just never got going, and the Aigles Bleus secured the 2-0 victory.

Saint Mary's (4-2-0) will return to their home turf next weekend, as they host a rematch with the Aigles Bleus at Huskies Stadium on Sat. Oct. 8 at 7:15 p.m.

Moncton (1-1-2), will next play a pair of road games in Halifax, facing the Dalhousie Tigers on Fri, Oct. 7 before visiting the Huskies the following day.
