Ridgebacks lose defensive battle to Badgers

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech University men's hockey team came up short on the road on Wednesday night, falling 2-1 against the Brock Badgers.

After earning a big win over nationally ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday, the Ridgebacks began the game with energy. Controlling the pace of play for much of the first 20 minutes, Ontario Tech was able to open the scoring after some nice passing. The Badgers evened the score later in the period, as the teams headed into the locker room tied 1-1.

A goal just 38 seconds into the second frame gave the home team a lead, as the Ridgebacks were forced to chase the game. Both teams displayed strong defence, not allowing many quality scoring chances, as the home team held onto the one-goal lead for the remainder of the game.

The Ridgebacks now have a few days off before traveling to Toronto for a showdown with the Toronto Varsity Blues on Sunday afternoon.
Jordan Ross (Kronau, Sask.) opened the scoring at 6:40, finishing a perfect three-way passing play with Jack Patterson (Bedford, N.S.) and Noah McMullin (Beaver Bank, N.S.). • Ryan Burton evened the game at 13:17 on a wraparound. Jared Marino scored the game winner early in the second period for the Badgers.
Leif Hertz (Kingston, Ont.) stopped 22 of the 24 shots he faced in the loss.
• Mario Cavaliere made 29 saves in the win.
  Overall Record: 6-7-0
Conference Record: 4-5-0
