REDS Hold Off Tigers

(HALIFAX, NS) The U SPORTS No. 1 ranked UNB REDS scored a 2-1 win over the Dalhousie Tigers on Friday night, in Halifax.

Frederike Cyr (Candiac, QC) and Lauren Carter (Milton, ON) scored for the REDS, while Olivia Eustace (Riverview, NB) had Dal's lone goal.

Cyr's goal came less than a minute into the game.

With the REDS pressing, Cyr snuckinto the slot and took a pass from Lily George (Nipissing First Nation), firing a quick wrist shot past Tigers' goalie Grace Beer (Oakville, ON).

Later in the period, Carter forced a Tigers turnover, then raced in alone, beating Beer on the blocker side.

Eustace scored midway through the third period to pull Dal within a goal.

Cassie McCallum (Rothesay, NB) earned her fifth win of the season, stopping 15 of the 16 shots she faced in the UNB net.

Beer made 24 saves on 26 shots.

The REDS are now 12-0-0-1 (W-L-OTL-SOL) and sit first in the Atlantic University Sport standings. Dal is 7-5-1-1 and tied for third.

Up next for the REDS, a Saturday afternoon matinee at Saint Mary's. Game time is 3:00pm.

The Tigers next see action on Wednesday, when they visit STFX for a 7:00pm start.
