Hockey Axemen pick up important road win over Moncton

MONCTON, N.B. - The Acadia University Axemen (6-11-0-0=12pts, 6th position) were hungrier and regained the 6th position they had bequeathed Friday in the standings with a 4-3 win over the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (5-10-1-0=11pts, 7th position) in an Atlantic University Sport men's hockey game Saturday in front of more than 600 spectators at the J.-Louis-Lévesque arena.

Jack Flaman, in the first and at the end of the second period, on the power play, led the visitor's offensive that led throughout the game. Mason McCarty at the start of the second and Eric Henderson, with the winner midway through the third on a hard high shot provided the Axemen's offensive effort. Henderson added two assists and was selected the Subway player of the game.

Vincent Deslauriers (Nathaël Roy, Mika Cyr; Francis Thibeault), with two goals in the third period and Remy Anglehart (Olivier-Luc Haché, Yann-Félix Lapointe) on the man advantage at 3:56 of the middle period, found the back of the net for the Aigles Bleus. The visitors led 34 (14-11-9) to 24 (5-10-9) on shots on goal. Conor McCollum registered the win in front of the net. Étienne Montpetit played 50 minutes (3 goals, 31 shots) before retiring in favor of Émile Samson (10 minutes, 1 goal, 3 shots).

Acadia scored once on 3 occasions on the power play and Moncton was 1 in 4. The game resulted in a quick and more defensive game. Both teams managed many offensive rushes that resulted in blocked shots or goalkeeper saves.

The Blue and Gold will host the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena in their final pre-holiday home game, while the Axemen head to Dalhousie on Wednesday, Dec. 1 for 7 p.m. puck drop.
