Scoring chances were few and far between, as the UPEI Panthers and UNB Reds ended in a nil-nil stalemate on a chilly Sunday afternoon.
For the Panthers (0-3-2), it was a missed opportunity to climb the standings, as the two teams finished with a point each.
"It's a tie and we can only go up from here," said centreback Roselyn Kushko (Russell, ON). "We have a game Thursday and I think we can definitely win that if we continue to drive."
Kushko was key in keeping the game knotted up at zeroes. She led an entire backline that played its best game of the season so far, as they denied UNB (1-2-2) from generating any scoring opportunities.
"Our backline was solid the entire game. We just communicated well and made sure we were organized and had our head in the game."
On the other side, it was UPEI's Patrycia Kozak (Mississauga, ON) who had plenty of opportunities to put her team ahead. The crafty rookie often created space for herself, but couldn't get one by goalkeeper Brynn Nash (Saskatoon, SK), who recorded four saves on the striker alone.
UPEI's best chance of the afternoon came in the 60th minute when Sophie Messom (Canaan, NS) took a touch and fired a long shot off the crossbar which kept the game scoreless.
The Panthers travel to Wolfville Thursday night to take on the Acadia Axewomen, while the Reds host Mount Allison.
