Ontario Tech hands nationally ranked Rams first loss of 2019

OSHAWA, Ont. – A penalty kick goal by Christopher Campoli (Woodbridge, Ont.) was the difference in a 1-0 victory for the Ontario Tech University men's soccer team on Friday afternoon.

The win was the first of the season for the Ridgebacks, but it was also the first loss for the No. 5 ranked Ryerson Rams. Just a week earlier, Ontario Tech was also the first team to take a point from Ryerson, who were otherwise 5-0-0 before facing the Ridgebacks.

Campoli's game-winning goal came in the 77th minute of the match on a penalty kick, which he put past Ali Ghazanfari, who finished with five saves in the loss.

Nicholas Miller (Oshawa, Ont.) picked up his 10th career clean sheet as a Ridgeback with six saves in the match. He is now both one win and clean sheet away from tying Ontario Tech's all-time leader in each category, Travis Martin (15 wins, 11 clean sheets).

Recent results against the Rams have improved the Ridgebacks all-time record against Ryerson to 3-10-1, with the last victory coming in 2017, also 1-0.

Sunday afternoon the Ridgebacks continue their homestand against the Trent Excalibur. Kick off is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. at Vaso's Field.

  Overall Record: 2-2-4 (W-L-D)
Conference Record: 2-1-4

Next Match: Sunday, Sept. 22 vs. Trent Excalibur (3:15 p.m. – Vaso's Field)
