The men's soccer team headed down highway 17 on Saturday to battle their northern rivals, the Nipissing Lakers.  In what was a very well played and spirited affair that saw a total of four yellow cards given out, the Voyageurs fell by a 1-0 score line.

It was the Lakers who came out on the front foot, firing six shots towards Laurentian's net with four of them hitting the target.  Lucas Cidade was equal to the task, however, turning aside all four shots, leaving the game scoreless at halftime.  Early in the second half, a Lakers shot off the cross bar just crossed the line, giving the squad from North Bay a 1-0 advantage.  From there the Lakers buttoned things up defensively and the Voyageurs could not find a way through.  Cidade made six saves in defeat.

The teams will return to Sudbury tomorrow for the back end of the home-and-home.
