Thunderbirds-Golden Bears Stats

EDMONTON
- For the #1 Alberta Golden Bears, a game like they had against the #9 UBC Thunderbirds, Friday at Clare Drake Arena, will go a long way. The high-powered offence of the Bears put their hard hats on and ground out a 2-0 victory over the T-Birds.

Ben Lindemulder scored the game-winning goal. Kurtis Mucha made 21 saves for his first shutout of the season and sixth of his career.

His counterpart, Jordan White, was impressive making 34 saves in the loss.

Second-year forward and Canada West’s leading goal scorer Jordan Hickmott added a empty-netter for his 12th of the campaign in the dying seconds to put the pesky Thunderbirds to rest.

The victory is the Bears ninth straight, improving their record to 12-3. Meanwhile, UBC had their four-game win streak snapped, dropping their record to 8-4-1.

The teams go at it again on Saturday, 6:00 p.m. at Clare Drake Arena.

Pronghorns-Huskies Stats

SASKATOON - Two third period goals lifted the #4 Saskatchewan Huskies over the visiting Lethbridge Pronghorns on Friday at Rutherford Rink.

Notched at two entering the third period, Huskie Andrew Bailey broke the tie with a quick shot on a short-handed opportunity just 48 seconds into the frame. Huskie captain Brennan Bosch extended the lead to two at 14:20 in the third period when his shot beat Lethbridge netminder Damien Ketlo glove side.

The Pronghorns pulled within one after Huskie goalie Ryan Holfeld turned over the puck on a clearing attempt. Brent Henke stopped the puck just before the blue line and shot it into the net before Holfeld could get back in position with 57 seconds left in the game. Despite the extra man for the remaining portion of the game, Lethbridge couldn’t force extra time.

With the win the Huskies move to 10-3-0, while Lethbridge drops to 1-10-2.

Hayden Rintoul and Devon Kalinski scored for Lethbridge, while Kyle bortis and Craig McCallum scored for Saskatchewan.

Holfeld made 17 saves in the win, while rookie Ketlo stopped an impressive 37 of the 41 shots he faced in the game.

The teams battle again on Saturday at Rutherford Rink. Puck drop is 7 p.m.

Calgary 4 Mount Royal 1

Cougars-Dinos Stats

CALGARY – Each Calgary team grabbed a win in their own barn this weekend as the University of Calgary Dinos won game two of Crowchild Classic action 4-1 over the Mount Royal Cougars on Friday night at the Father David Bauer Arena.

The win improves the Dinos to 7-7-0 with only two games left until the Christmas break. Mount Royal falls to 4-12-0, six points behind Calgary for the final playoff spot in Canada West. The victory by the Dinos also clinches the inaugural Crowchild Classic title for Calgary with the standings sitting at 8-3-2.

Kodie Curran and Brock Nixon were among the Calgary goal-scorers.

Dustin Butler stopped 17 of 18 to rebound from a tough outing in his last appearance. Dylan Flette finished the night with 27 saves in the losing cause.

The Dinos wrap up play in 2012 next weekend with a home-and-home series against the Lethbridge Pronghorns. The series begins on Thursday, Nov. 29 at Father David Bauer Arena, with the rematch Dec. 1 in Lethbridge. Mount Royal travels to Saskatoon next weekend for a two-game set on Nov. 30 – Dec. 1 against the Saskatchewan Huskies.

Cougars-Bisons Stats

WINNIPEG - The Manitoba Bisons men’s hockey team started the weekend at home with an impressive 6-0 shutout win over the Regina Cougars at the Max Bell Arena (U of Manitoba campus) on Friday.

Manitoba now has a 7-4-2 conference record for 16 points and in fourth place while Lethbridge drops to 6-5-2 with 14 points and sits in a tie for fifth spot with Calgary in the Canada West standings.

Jesse Deckert, the September/October Canada West men’s hockey Husky-WHL Graduate of the Month award winner, would preserve the shutout with a 22-save performance for his first-ever CIS shutout.

Manitoba was led by Henry with three points (one goal, two assists) and first star selection, Deckert was second star while Lockerby added two points (1g, 1a) for third star mention. Regina had Gore record 37 saves in the loss and also went 0 for 3 on the power play.

Both teams do not have a lot of time to get ready and play again as they next meet on Saturday, 2:30 p.m. CT at the Max Bell Arena (U of Manitoba campus).

Dinos-Cougars Stats

CALGARY
- Riley Reinbolt's goal at 11:07 in the second period would prove to be the difference-maker as the Mount Royal Cougars downed the visiting Calgary Dinos 3-2 in action on Thursday at Flames Community Arenas.

Eric Galbraith and Tyler Jewitt also provided goals for Mount Royal, which improved to 4-11-0 with the win, while Calgary drops to 6-7-0. Calgary's Kevin King and Alex Dzielski responded with tallies for
the Dinos.

The Cougars and Dinos will meet back on the ice on Friday night at
Calgary’s Farther David Bauer Arena. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m.
