OSHAWA, Ont. – Sarah Foster (Oshawa, Ont.) doubled her 2019 season goal total on Sunday as she scored both Ontario Tech Ridgebacks goals in their 2-1 victory over the Trent Excalibur.
The win for the Ridgebacks is only their second of the season, but was crucial as they now hold the tiebreaker with Trent and are currently tied with the Excalibur with seven points in the sixth and final playoff spot in the OUA east.
Foster opened the scoring in the 29
th minute, finishing on a pass by
Lauren Rea (Burnaby, B.C.). The 1-0 lead stood until the 54
th minute when Emma Twohey scored for the Excalibur.
The game-winning goal by Foster came off confusion by the Trent keeper and defenders as she was left with an easy tap in from the top of the box in the 77
th minute. She now leads the Ridgebacks in scoring this season with four.
Olivia Tierney (King City, Ont.) made four saves in the victory, her second of the season and eighth all-time. At the opposite end of the pitch Riley Gillespie-Friesen made two stops in the loss for Trent.
Next weekend the Ridgebacks make their annual road trip to the nation's capital to face the Ottawa Gee-Gees and Carleton Ravens. Kick off on Saturday against the Gee-Gees is scheduled for 1 p.m.
