X-Women top Tigers 6-3 in exhibition action

Antigonish, NS – The StFX X-Women defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 6-3 in exhibition action Saturday afternoon at the Charles V. Keating Centre. 

The X-Women had six different skaters score as they held leads of 2-1 after one and 5-1 after two periods. 

Lydia Schurman opening the scoring with a first period goal 5:55 into play but Nicole Hegyi tied it up less than three minutes later. 

Chloe Vukosa scored midway through the period give StFX a 2-1 lead and they would not relinquish it for the remainder of the game. 

The X-Women capitalized on a Tigers four-minute head contact penalty and scored a pair of power play goals 44 seconds apart in the opening four minutes of the second period. Tyra Meropoulis and Kristen McKinley each scored on the man-advantage.  

Kate Gotaas added the fifth X-Women goal four minutes later as they held a commanding 5-1 lead after 40 minutes of play. 

Brooklyn Paisley got one back for the Tigers with a power play marker at 5:15 of the third period, then Carly Burrows (StFX) and Natalie Stanwood (DAL) exchanged goals to round out the scoring in the game. 

The X-Women held the advantage in shots on goal at 33-27. 

Cassidy McEwan earned the win in the StFX net with 24 saves. The Tigers netminding duties were shared between Taylor Beam (13 saves, 5 GA) and Kaelyn Budden (14 saves, 1 GA).  

The Tigers will play again Sunday afternoon in exhibition action between their cross-town rival Saint Mary's Huskies. Puck drop is 3:00 pm at Saint Mary's Arena. 

StFX resumes action on Wednesday night, January 8th when they host Saint Mary's in the first AUS regular season game of 2020 at 7:00 pm at the StFX Keating Centre.
