Huskies hand Capers 94-78 loss

Sydney, NS - The Cape Breton University Capers (0-19) started off strong against the Saint Mary's Huskies (12-7), but it was the Huskies taking over and winning 94-78 in Atlantic University Sport men's basketball action Friday night at the Sullivan Field House.

Both teams exchanged leads multiple times the first quarter, but it was the Capers jumping out to a 23-18 lead, capped off with a nice layup by Jack MacAulay (Charlottetown, PEI) with just over six seconds left in the frame. This gave CBU a five-point lead heading into the second.

The teams continued the back-and-forth action into the second, but a layup by Marquis Clayton (Halifax, NS) with 3:40 left in the quarter sparked a 21-2 run for the Huskies that continued into the third. The Capers were unable to climb back after the run.

Down 67-48 going into the fourth, the hole was too deep to climb out of for the Capers. They managed to outscore the Huskies 30-27 in the final 10 minutes, lead by a strong quarter by Aaron Hayles (Pickering, ON).

For the Huskies, Marquis Clayton led the way with a game-high 17 points on 6/13 from the field. Kemar Alleyne (Scarborough, ON) contributed with 15 points and six rebounds.

Kyle Hankins (Burlington, ON) was the top scorer for the Capers, scoring 18 points and grabbed five rebounds off the bench. Christian Affolter (Bern, Switz) and Blake Gallatly (Maffra, AUS) chipped in with 15 points each. Affolter also brought down 10 rebounds, giving him a double-double.

The teams will be right back at it Saturday night as the Capers host their last game of the season at the Field House against the Huskies.

The game will tip-off at 8p.m
