Laval Rouge et Or to compete in FISU women’s soccer University World Cup
The Laval Rouge et Or women’s soccer teams will be the Canadian representatives at the 2025 FISU University World Cup. U SPORTS, as the Canadian representative of FISU, the International University Sports Federation, announced the participating teams today for the event, which runs from Sept. 18-28 in Dalian, China.
The Rouge et Or, last year’s U SPORTS silver medallists, qualified for the tournament by virtue of their third-place finish at the FISU America women’s soccer tournament in Uruguay last May.
After their South American adventure, Laval finished with a 6-3-5 regular season record before upsetting McGill and Montréal to win the RSEQ championship and advance to the U SPORTS tournament. At last year’s Canadian championship in Halifax, the Rouge et Or defeated Trinity Western and Ottawa, both on penalties after 0-0 draws, to advance to the national championship game, where they fell 1-0 to UBC.
The Ottawa Gee-Gees won the inaugural University World Cup in 2019, and Canada was not represented at the 2023 event.
The full team roster, along with the draw and schedule for the event, will be released in the coming months.
