Carleton women, Victoria men to represent Canada at FISU America 3x3 tournament
Athletes from the Carleton women’s basketball and the Victoria men’s basketball teams will be the Canadian representatives at the FISU America 3x3 basketball championship. U SPORTS, as the Canadian representative of FISU, the International University Sports Federation, announced the two participating teams today for the event, which runs from May 29-31 in Brasilia, Brazil.
On the women’s side, the four athletes from Carleton, who won the FISU America event last year, and finished second at the subsequent FISU World Cup last fall, are fourth-year forward Tatyanna Burke (Winona, Ont./Cardinal Newman Secondary), Jacqueline Urban (Ancaster, Ont./Lincoln Prep), Kyana-Jade Poulin (Montreal, Que./Vanier College) and Dorcas Buisa (Gatineau, Que./Heritage College). Buisa, Urban and Poulin are all veterans of the 2024 event, with Burke being the only newcomer to the squad. Urban is a second-team All-Canadian, while Burke was named an all-star the 2025 Women’s Final 8 and Poulin was an OUA Second Team All-Star.
Dani Sinclair, who led Carleton to a national silver medal this year and won the Peter Ellis Award as the U SPORTS women’s basketball coach of the year, will lead the side, assisted by Michelle Abella.
On the men’s side, three of the four Vikes heading to Brazil are from Vancouver Island, including third-year forward Shadynn Smid (Duncan, B.C./Cowichan Secondary), second year guard Griffin Arnatt (Victoria, B.C./Oak Bay Secondary) and fourth-year Ethan Boag (Victoria, B.C./Claremont Secondary). They are joined by Montreal product Renoldo Robinson (Dawson College).
Robinson is a First Team All-Canadian, and was named to the 2025 Final 8 all-tournament team, while Boag is a Canada West second-team all-star.
Josh Reddy, the lead assistant coach for the Vikes, will coach the squad in Brasilia.
The event serves as a qualifier for the FISU 3x3 World Cup, with the tournament champion gaining automatic entry into the event which is scheduled for this fall.
