2011 AUS swimming championship preview

The Tigers swim teams will be in the pool at Dalplex this weekend, February 11-13, as Dalhousie hosts the 2011 AUS Subway swimming championships.

The Tigers women's swim team has been undefeated at the AUS championships since 2002 and the men's team since 1999. This year the competition will be tough once again as swimmers push themselves to set new records in the pool and strive to earn CIS championship qualifying times. The AUS championship meet provides an opportunity to showcase high level swimmers in the Atlantic region. This year the meet will feature swimmers from Acadia, Memorial, Mount Allison, the University of New Brunswick, the University of Prince Edward Island and the host Dalhousie.

Dalhousie swim team head coach David Fry says, "Both the men's and women's teams are excited about hosting the AUS championships in their home pool. We expect lots of great racing as each of the six universities come prepared to swim their best. Our teams have been very committed and diligent in their training this season and we are looking for great team results."

A number of Tigers swimmers have already found success in the pool and recorded CIS championship qualifying times this season. On the men's side Simon Boilard, Ian Fisk, Bryan Fumerton, Ryan Laustsen, Kit Moran, Brad Piggott, Matt Piggott, David Sharpe, Dmitry Shulga and Joe Ur have all achieved the required times. Danielle Adam, Meagan Bernier, Terri-Lynn Benison, Michelle Campbell, Emmalina Corriveau, Julia Gow, Mary Claire Lynch, Ceilidh MacPherson, Michaela Nichols and Tavia Raiche-Marsden from the women's team have also met the CIS standard.

The AUS championship meet is free to attend and will also be webcast live at http://www.ssncanada.ca/ .
