Jim Born named Honorary Chair of 2014 CIS Wrestling Championships
FREDERICTON, N.B. – John Richard, athletic director at the University of New Brunswick - is pleased to announce that Mr. Jim Born will serve as Honorary Chair of the 2014 event.

FREDERICTON, N.B. – John Richard, athletic director at the University of New Brunswick - host University of the 2013-2014 CIS Men’s and Women’s Wrestling Championships - is pleased to announce that Mr. Jim Born will serve as Honorary Chair of the 2014 event.
This season’s championships will take place at the Richard J. Currie Center, UNB Fredericton Campus, on February 28 and March 1st, 2014.
“We are very pleased to have Jim Born serve as the honorary chair of the championships,” said Richard. “Jim has been involved with our program for many, many, years in several different capacities; he is a first class individual.”
As Honorary Chair, Born will be involved in a number of key events such as the CIS All-Canadian Gala and the opening ceremonies and presentations throughout the championship. He will also help crown the CIS championship winning teams at the conclusion of the event.
Born began his UNB coaching career in 1971 when he was hired as the head football and wrestling coach. In 1983 he took over the reigns as the athletic director and eventually retired from UNB in 1999.
As wrestling coach from 1971 to 1983 Born won nine straight AUS (then AUAA) championships and ten overall. He has always held a special interest in the UNB wrestling program and continues to keep up-to-date with coach Don Ryan.
“I’m honoured to be named honorary chair of the CIS wrestling championships,” said Born. “Don (Ryan) has done a tremendous job with the UNB team and I’m happy to support the program in any way that I can.”
