50th TELUS Vanier Cup: CIS launches Vanier Cup history website, VC50 interview series

50 days to go until historic championship game in Montreal 

OTTAWA (CIS) – With exactly 50 days to go before kickoff, Canadian Interuniversity Sport launched Friday at 1 p.m. a special section of the 50th TELUS Vanier Cup website celebrating the storied history of the championship game, as well as a series of interviews with key figures from each of the past CIS football title matches.

The new section of the Vanier Cup website contains historical information on each of the first 49 championship finals, including photos, video footage, game recaps, statistics, rosters, game-day program covers, and much more.

Kicking off the VC50 Interview Series today is a conversation with former University of Toronto running back Gerry Sternberg, who was named MVP of the inaugural Vanier Cup in 1965. The interview is available on the 50th TELUS Vanier Cup site: 1965 VC50 INTERVIEW

Upcoming interviews will feature St. Francis Xavier’s Terry Dolan (1966), Alberta’s Val Schneider (1967) and Queen’s Don Bayne (1968).

The 50th TELUS Vanier Cup is set for Saturday, Nov. 29 at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium, marking the first staging of the event in Montreal. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET, live on Sportsnet and Radio-Canada.

Canadian Interuniversity Sport will celebrate the 50th TELUS Vanier Cup throughout its 2014 football season.
