OTTAWA (CIS) – A few months after they captured a record
14th University Cup title, the Alberta Golden Bears top the first
men’s hockey national rankings of the 2014-15 season.
The Bears open at No. 1 for the second straight year despite
receiving only five of 16 first-place votes (good for 132 points)
from the national media panel, one less than the second-ranked
Calgary Dinos (125 points). Third-seeded UNB, with three votes, No.
4 Saskatchewan, with one, and unranked Mount Royal, with one, also
received first-place nods.
The CIS men’s hockey regular schedule got underway last
weekend in the Canada West conference, with Alberta splitting its
two-game series against UBC in Vancouver (3-2, 2-5), while Calgary
and Saskatchewan were sweeping doubleheaders against Manitoba and
Regina, respectively.
