The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades defeated the
University of Regina Cougars, 2-0, to improve their Canada West
regular season record to 6-5-1 for 19-points and a tie with the
University of Saskatchewan Huskies for 4th place in Canada West
with two regular season matches remaining, next weekend.
The Cascades will host the University of Calgary Dinos, on Saturday (October 30th) and University of Lethbridge Pronghorns on Sunday (October 31st) at Bateman Park (Abbotsford, BC). The Cascades are in a three-way battle with Saskatchewan and Calgary for the fourth and final Canada West post season berth.

The Cascades were strong today, playing a well balance game
against their Regina opponents. UFV moved the ball
around the park controlling the majority of play and held the
Cougars in check for most of the game. UFV did have
trouble scoring in the first half the Cascades defense created
several great opportunities for the offense to score but
Regina's defense held UFV off the score board in the first
half.
UFV continued to pressure the Cougars defense in the
second half and that persistent pressure led to a pair of penalty
kicks which UFV's captain Megan Webster, Abbotsford, BC scored both
Cascade goals on to give the home team the much needed 3-points to
stay in the Canada West playoff hunt.
Chantelle Biagioni, Pitt Meadows, BC made the key saves when
she was called upon to preserve the victory and earned her sixth
league win of the year and fourth shutout of the season.
The Cascades defense did not allow a goal all weekend lowering the team's goal against average to 1.33 for the season. "Chantelle was a calming presence in goal and Lyndsay (Munro) again did a great job anchoring our back 4," said UFV Head Coach Rob Giesbrecht.

"I was proud of how we kept trying to find ways to score, our continual assertive play led to two penalty kick's for us (UFV). We encouraged the team to keep going at them and they did exactly as they were asked," said Giesbrecht.
