FREDERICTON, N.B. - John Richard, athletic director at the University of New Brunswick, hosts University of the 2013 CIS men's soccer championship, is pleased to announce that Mr. Gary Brown and Mr. Lee Winchester will serve as Honorary Co-Chairs of the 2013 event.

This year's championship will take place at the BMO Centre on the UNB Fredericton Campus, from November 7-10, 2013.

"We are very pleased to have such high calibre people as Gary and Lee serve as the honorary co-chairs of the championship," said Richard. "Gary has been involved with our program for many, many years and Lee is a huge supporter of soccer at UNB."

As Honorary co-chairs, Brown and Winchester will be involved in a number of key events such as the CIS all-Canadian Gala, the opening ceremonies, on-field presentations throughout the championship and they will help crown the CIS championship winning team at the conclusion of the event.

Brown was the coach of the first ever CIS championship team at UNB as his soccer team delivered the goods to win the banner in the fall of 1980. He served as the UNB soccer coach for 27 seasons (1971-1998) and was also a long time faculty member in the Faculty of Kinesiology before retiring in 1999.

"I feel privileged to be named honorary co-chair of this prestigious event," said Brown. "I'm really looking forward to being a part of another CIS championship event at UNB - I'm sure it will bring back exciting memories of the time we won here (at UNB) on home turf."

Winchester, Bank of Montreal area manager for western New Brunswick, has been involved in the UNB sponsorship program through the BMO Financial Group and its corporate involvement in communities across the country for grassroots soccer.

"I have a passion for sport and am a keen supporter of university sport, in particular the UNB soccer program," commented Winchester. "I'm honoured to be involved in the national championship."
