GAME 1
TORONTO – Team Canada’s World Junior team had a dominant night offensively against the CIS Toronto Selects, posting a 10-3 victory to open their selection camp’s exhibition series on Saturday night at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
Sixteen different Team Canada players registered a point in Saturday’s contest, led by three assists from Jake Virtanen. Robby Fabbri was the lone player to register multiple goals with two in the second period.
Canada scored three times in each of the first and second periods before adding four more in the final frame.
The Toronto Selects got one goal in each period and Ryerson Rams captain Michael Fine led the squad with two assists.
Canada’s Nick Ritchie opened the scoring just 1:30 into the contest but Ryerson’s Alex Basso blasted a point shot through Zachary Fucale to tie the game at ones midway through the first.
Canada responded quickly and took a 3-1 lead into the first intermission.
York Lions forward Mark Cross scored the Selects’ second goal at 6:40 of the second period after he finished a 2-on-1 pass from Ryerson’s Lucas Froese.
Robby Fabbri’s two second period goals helped Canada extend its lead to 6-2 after forty minutes.
Rams forward Domenic Alberga scored just 23 seconds into the third period to get the CIS Selects back within three but four straight goals from the Canadians closed the game at 10-3.
Fucale played all sixty minutes in goal for Team Canada, making 23 saves on 26 shots.
Ryerson’s Troy Passingham started for the CIS Selects and stopped 13 of the 16 shots his way. Toronto’s Michael Nishi took over in the second and stopped 16 of 19 while York’s Chris Perugini took the reigns in the third and made 18 saves on 22 shots.
The Toronto Selects went 2-for-5 on the power play while Canada was 1-for-3 with the man advantage.
The teams will meet again on Sunday, December 14 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.

GAME 2
TORONTO – A 22 save shutout from Eric Comrie propelled Team Canada’s World Junior team to a 6-0 victory in the second game of a back-to-back with the CIS Toronto Select team on Sunday afternoon at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
Brayden Point and Jake Virtanen each netted two goals and an assist to lead the Canadian offense.
Defenceman Haydn Fleury opened the scoring at 5:32 of the first period when he walked in from the blue line on the power play and beat York University’s Chris Perugini. The Canadians doubled their lead just over a minute and a half later on Point’s first of the afternoon before heading to the locker room with a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes.
University of Toronto goaltender Michael Nishi came on in the second period and stopped 11 of the 13 shots he faced. Only Jake Virtanen was able to beat Nishi, going up over the glove on a perfectly placed shot before benefitting from a Brayden Point cross-crease pass for an easy tap in to give Canada a 5-0 advantage heading into the third.
After getting the start in last night’s game, Ryerson’s Troy Passingham came on in the third period to play goal for the CIS Toronto Selects and gave up just one goal on 16 shots faced. Morgan Klimchuk beat Passingham at 2:47 of the third period but that was all the Canadians could muster against Passingham.
Team Canada went 2-for-4 on the power play and killed off all four man advantages against.
