EDMONTON - Fourth-year University of Alberta Golden Bears defenceman Jordan Rowley will attend the Edmonton Oilers’ main training camp, beginning on September 18th, after receiving an invite from the NHL club.
Rowley will first suit up the for the Bears on Wednesday, September 17th in their annual game against the Edmonton Oiler rookies, and then will trade his Evergreen and Gold sweater for the blue and orange of the Oilers the next day at Rexall Place.
The Edmonton born and raised defenceman is coming off a breakout season for the CIS champion Golden Bears in which he won the Mervyn “Red” Dutton Trophy as the Canada West defenceman of the year, as well as CIS first team all-Canadian status. Rowley picked up 30 points last season, which was tops amongst Canada West defenceman, and he has collected 49 points in his CIS career to date.
Prior to playing for the U of A, Rowley patrolled the blue line with Kamloops Blazers and Prince Albert Raider, and in 310 WHL games the right-handed offensive defenceman tallied 146 points, including a 50-point campaign for the Raiders in 2009-10.
