OTTAWA - The Queen’s University Gaels came into Carleton’s barn Tuesday night and came out victorious, holding on for a 3-2 win despite a ferocious Ravens comeback attempt.

Jordan Soquila (Maple Ridge, B.C.) opened the scoring with a beautiful tip past Ravens goaltender Ryan Dube (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) just over two minutes into the game. Tyler Moore (Winnipeg) gave the Gaels a two-goal lead midway through the period with a highlight-reel move that ended with a smooth backhander.

The Ravens stayed in the game though with a flurry of shots and a determined forecheck. Finally, with four minutes left in the second, Jeff Hayes (Ottawa) broke loose on a breakaway and buried his shot past Gael’s goaltender Riley Whitlock (Calgary) to narrow the lead to one.

Despite a dominant finish to the second period, the Ravens found themselves trailing 3-1 in the third, when David Chubb (St. George’s, Nfld.) provided some insurance with a big goal for Queen’s.

Down but not out, the Ravens turned up the dial and Hayes ripped a bullet in the slot past Whitlock for his second goal of the game to bring Carleton within one with just over ten minutes remaining.

But the comeback was not meant to be, as the Gaels finished off the game with some stingy defence and took two big points from the Ravens, preventing Carleton from catching Nipissing for third place in the OUA East.

The Ravens fly back to action at home Saturday night against the No.1 nationally ranked McGill Redmen. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
