Concordia 5 Ottawa 3 Final Boxscore

OTTAWA - It wasn't the send off the Gee-Gees were looking for. In his last game before heading to Erzurum, Turkey for the 2011 FISU World University Games, first-year defenseman Dominic Jalbert, Gatineau, Que., would notch a goal and an assist in a disappointing 5-3 loss to the Concordia Stingers (10-9-1 OUA) on Sunday afternoon.

The Gee-Gees would fall behind early in the game as the Stingers would get two shots from the point past first-year goalie Harrison May, Vancouver, B.C. uOttawa would answer back before the end of the frame however as third-year forward Matt Methot, Ottawa, Ont., would bang in a rebound on a 5 on 3 power-play. Methot would also garner an assist in the game.

"I was disappointed in the first period," said head coach Dave Leger, "I just didn't think we played with any sense of urgency."

Third-year forward Simren Sandhu, Calgary, Alta., would tie things up for the Gee-Gees mid-way through the second period. Streaking into the Concordia zone, Sandhu would evade the Stinger defence the flip the puck over the pad of Concordia goalie Raffaele D'orso for his second goal of the season.

Although Jalbert would bring the Gee-Gees within one goal in the third period, D'orso and the Stingers would shut the door on many Gee-Gees chances and stop 41 of the uOttawa's 44 shots.

"We were maybe too confident going into this game," said Jalbert, "We have another game against [Concordia], so we'll have to do better."

May struggled in the game, stopping 15 of 20 shots, although Leger would take some of the onus off the young goalie.

"I didn't think we gave him much support in front,' said Leger, "There were too many great chances in front of him, too many outnumbered chances."

The Gee-Gees next game will be on January 22 at 7:00 p.m. when they host the UQTR Patriotes (14-6-0 OUA) for a rematch of Friday's game before making their way back to Montreal to take on the Stingers again on January 23.
