HAMILTON, Ont. – Ontario University Athletics (OUA) is pleased to announce the 2012 OUA field hockey major awards and all-stars, sponsored by Harrow Sports Canada.

Brittany Seidler (Oliver, B.C.) repeats as OUA player of the year, and marks the fourth year in a row that a member of the Guelph Gryphons has earned league MVP honours. The fourth-year forward led the country in goals, netting 19 for the second-place Gryphons. Five of her 19 markers were penalty strokes. She helped lead the Gryphons to an 8-3-1 record, with two of the Gryphons' three losses coming at the hands of the top ranked Toronto Varsity Blues. This is Seidler's second player of the year award and her third appearance on the OUA all-star team. She was a first team all-Canadian in 2010 and 2011.

The OUA rookie of the year award goes to Seidler's teammate, forward Allison Chute (Greenfield Park, Que.). Chute was a major contributor for the Gryphons, scoring 12 goals in her first OUA campaign. Chute's goals tied her for second in the OUA scoring race, and she was also named an OUA all-star for her efforts.

This year's Gail Wilson award for outstanding contribution to the community and sport of field hockey goes to Queen's Allison Wallis (Milton, Ont.) The three-time CIS academic all-Canadian spends countless hours coaching with the Kingston Regional Field Hockey Club and is a certified umpire. Wallis is also deeply involved with the Queen's University chapter of the World University Service of Canada (WUSC), a world-wide student international development organization.

The Toronto Varsity Blues boast an undefeated record and three all-stars. Fifth-year senior Kaelan Watson (Richmond, B.C.) has been a staple on the OUA all-star team since her OUA debut in 2008. The defender started every match for the Blues in her final season and scored five goals, putting her career total at 23. Last year's rookie of the year Amanda Woodcroft (Waterloo, Ont.) makes her second appearance on the OUA all-star team. The speedy midfielder appeared in every game for the Blues, scoring six goals. Tegan Stairs (Kitchener, Ont.) rounds out Toronto's all-stars. The third-year transfer from Guelph netted 11 goals for the Blues after sitting out a season in 2011. Stairs was an OUA all-star and CIS second team all-Canadian in 2010.

Defender Adriana Fernandes (Mississauga, Ont.), midfielder Anna Easty (Toronto) and goalkeeper Shannon Vance (Goderich, Ont.) represent the York Lions on the 2012 OUA all-star team. Despite playing a defensive role, fifth-year Fernandes tied for the lead in team scoring with three goals in 11 games played. It is her second all-star honour after being named to the team last season. Easty also registered three goals for the Lions. As a fourth-year goalkeeper, Vance backstopped the Lions to a 3-8 record, allowing 31 goals against in tough OUA competition.

The Waterloo Warriors have two representatives on this year's all-star team. Fourth-year forward Courtney Bisch (Wellesley, Ont.) appeared in all but one game for the Warriors and tied for the team scoring lead with five goals. Bisch was a second team all-Canadian in 2011. Defender Winnie Huynh (Mississauga, Ont.) makes her second appearance on the OUA all-star team. Huynh helped the Warriors defensive unit limit their opponents to 17 goals, allowing Waterloo to tie for third in the OUA standings.

The Western Mustangs' lone all-star is third-year forward Katelyn Roganowicz (Burlington, Ont.). Roganowicz only played in nine games for Western, but was a catalyst for the offence, scoring four goals. This is her first all-star recognition.

In his fourth year at the helm of the Western Mustangs, head coach Jeff Pacheco has been named this year's OUA coach of the year. The Mustangs finished 2012 with a 7-4-1 record and are contenders at this weekend's OUA field hockey championship in Waterloo, Ont.
