FRC - U Sports football players of the week (#14): Vanier Cup champions Richard, Lussier-Roy, Robidoux Bouchard honoured

TORONTO (U Sports) – A trio of Vanier Cup champions in Laval quarterback Hugo Richard, linebacker Cédric Lussier-Roy, and halfback Raphaël Robidoux Bouchard are the final U Sports football players of the week of the season, for the period ending Nov. 27, 2016. 

Richard, a third-year mechanical engineering student from Longeuil, Que., was named the winner of the Ted Morris Memorial Trophy as MVP of the 52nd ArcelorMittal Dofasco Vanier Cup on Saturday. Richard threw for 339 yards, adding 62 yards on the ground, while completing 25 of 32 attempts for two touchdowns. 

Calgary running back Jeshrun Antwi was the other nominee for the award. 

Lussier-Roy, a second-year business student from Sherbrooke, Que., won the Bruce Coulter Award as Vanier Cup defensive MVP. He finished the game with seven tackles, one forced fumble and one sack of Dinos quarterback Adam Sinagra, which led to a Rouge et Or touchdown en route to their comeback victory. 

Calgary linebacker Boston Rowe was also nominated for the award. 

Robidoux Bouchard, a second-year social science student from Montreal, Que., came up with a big punt block in the fourth quarter that led to Hugo Richard’s game-winning touchdown. Robidoux Bouchard added four solo tackles, and assisted on another in addition to his block. 

The other nominee was Dinos kicker Niko DiFonte.

CWUAA: Jeshrun Antwi, running back, Calgary

 

Defensive nominees:

RSEQ: Cédric Lussier-Roy, linebacker, Laval (recipient)

CWUAA: Boston Rowe, linebacker, Calgary

 

Special teams nominees:

RSEQ: Raphael Robidoux Bouchard, halfback, Laval (recipient)

CWUAA: Niko DiFonte, kicker, Calgary
