OTTAWA (CIS) – The first eight weeks of the CIS football
season have been highlighted by some remarkable performances and a
number of star players could add their name to the national record
book by the time the regular schedule comes to an end, on November
1st.
Here’s a look at some players to keep an eye on over the next
two weekends.
CIS FOOTBALL
RECORD BOOK:
SINGLE-SEASON FIELD GOALS
Fifth-year McMaster kicker Tyler Crapigna entered the CIS record
book last Saturday when he booted four field goals to up his career
total to 83, one more than the previous national mark held by
former Sherbrooke great William Dion (2008-2012).
This Saturday, Crapigna and Guelph’s Daniel Ferraro both have
a shot at the single-season CIS record of 25 set in 2008 by
Laval’s Christopher Milo, who now stars in the CFL with the
Saskatchewan Roughriders. With one game left on their league
schedule, the two OUA standouts have made 23 field goals apiece
this fall, already a new conference standard.
McMaster wraps up league play at Ottawa tomorrow, while Guelph
visits Laurier. Both contests are set for 1 p.m.

CAREER SCORING
Thanks to his 15 points last weekend, Crapigna also moved to third
place on the all-time CIS scoring list with 400 career points. The
CIS and OUA record of 422 is held by Western’s Lirim
Hajrullahu (2009-2013). Ottawa legend Neil Lumsden (1972-1975)
ranks second all-time with 410 points.
Johnny Mark, who is in his fourth season with the Calgary Dinos and
has two league games left in 2014, is also in the CIS top 10 with
367 career points, good for eighth place. He became the Canada West
conference career leader last Saturday.

CAREER PASSING
While he won’t set any CIS records in the final regular
season game of his career, Saturday at Western, Windsor quarterback
Austin Kennedy could reach a number of important milestones.
The fifth-year senior is currently tied for fourth place in CIS
history with 76 touchdown passes, only three shy of the OUA mark
held by Ottawa’s Josh Sacobie (2004-2008), which also stands
as the second-highest total in CIS annals.
Kennedy could also become only the fourth CIS pivot to reach the
10,000-yard plateau. He is currently sixth on the list with 9,693
yards through the air.
Finally, he should become the third CIS quarterback to complete 700
passes over his career, as he needs only seven completions tomorrow
against Western to reach that target. Sherbrooke’s
Jérémi Roch, who is in his fourth campaign with the
Vert & Or, is also in the CIS top five, with 673.

SINGLE-SEASON RUSHING YARDS
Like Kennedy, Laurier running back Dillon Campbell won’t set
any new CIS standards on Saturday in the Hawks’ conference
finale against Guelph. However, the fourth-year senior should enter
the all-time top 10 for most rushing yards in a single season, and
maybe even the top five.
In seven games this fall, Campbell has racked up 1,255 yards on the
ground, 396 more than any other player in the country. He needs 74
to crack the single-season CIS top 10 and 209 to make it into the
leading quintet.

ROOKIE RECORDS
With two games remaining on Laval’s regular schedule,
first-year Rouge et Or quarterback Hugo Richard has already set a
CIS rookie record with 19 touchdown passes.
Next on his list is the record for most passing yards by a freshman
currently held by Sherbrooke’s Jérémi Roch, who
benefited from an expanded nine-game RSEQ schedule in 2011 to rack
up 2,383 yards. Richard, who set a new single-game Laval standard
last Saturday with 506 yards against Bishop’s, has amassed
2,061 yards in his first six university
outings.
The top-ranked Rouge et Or face McGill tonight (Oct. 24) at 7 p.m.
and wrap up conference play versus Montreal on Nov. 1st.
