2014 CIS Football Team Preview: Mount Allison Mounties

Source: Pierre Arsenault, Mount Allison Sports Info

2013 regular season record: 4-4
2013 regular season standings: 2nd AUS
2013 playoff record: 2-1
2013 playoff finish: Lost in Uteck Bowl to Laval 48-21

The Mount Allison Mounties overcame a slow start in 2013 by finishing the regular season with three straight wins.  The Mounties continued their win streak by winning back to back playoff games and capturing their first AUS Title since 1997 and the right to host the Uteck Bowl in Sackville, NB for the first time in school history. 2013 marked the third time in the last four years the Mounties have earned an AUS playoff berth.

In 2014 the Mounties look to capitalize on a large group of returning starters to go with key additions on both sides of the ball.  The Mounties lose AUS Most Outstanding Player Jordan Botel but feature a veteran heavy roster in Botel’s absence.  All 12 Defensive starters return to go along with 10 of 12 starters on Offense.  With a veteran presence the Mounties will look to start fast in 2014 in defense of its AUS Title.

Quote from head coach:

“We are fortunate to have a large group of starters back.  We lose an excellent back in Botel but we have a lot of experience coming back to offset the loss.  Our focus is to improve on playing better early in the season.  We have all of the tools to play well early in the season with a veteran defense, strong kicking game and returning QB.”
