OTTAWA (CIS) – Jordan Heather, a record-setting quarterback from Bishop’s University, is the RSEQ nominee for the prestigious Hec Crighton Trophy, which will be awarded to the most outstanding player in CIS football later this month.

The Quebec conference unveiled its annual awards at a reception in Montreal, Tuesday morning. The AUS, OUA and Canada West recipients will all be announced on Thursday.

Other RSEQ winners for the 2013 season include Montreal linebackers Antoine Pruneau (defensive MVP) and Alex Cromer-Émond (rookie of the year), Bishop’s sideline boss Kevin Mackey (coach of the year), as well as McGill offensive tackle Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, a medicine student who became the conference nominee for the J.P. Metras Trophy (outstanding down lineman) and Russ Jackson Award (football, academics & community service).

Heather is the first Bishop’s player to claim the Jeff Russel Trophy as league MVP since running back Jamall Lee in 2007. The fifth-year history major from Oromocto, N.B., established a single-season CIS record with 3,132 passing yards in eight games this fall, while also setting an RSEQ mark with 20 touchdown passes. The 6-foot, 200-pound led the Gaiters (6-2) to their first six-win campaign since 1993 and their first home playoff date since 1994. He was named RSEQ player of the week four times and earned the national honour on three occasions.

The CIS individual awards will be presented on Nov. 21 in Quebec City, two days before the TELUS Vanier Cup final (1 p.m. Sportsnet 360 & Radio-Canada).
