PROFILE

As a returning fourth-year player, 2nd team all-Canadian, Gee-Gees record holder, and entering a draft year, public administration student and Gee-Gees kicker Matt Falvo, Welland, Ont., is a definite player to watch in 2011. Starting football at age 16 at Welland’s Notre Dame College School, Falvo has worked hard at becoming an elite athlete with his time paying off last season when the young kicker was named a CIS all-Canadian for the first time. This season Falvo looks to build off this success in order to realise his goal of playing in the CFL. Falvo’s extremely strong work ethic and elite skill have already been evident to players and coaches alike in 2010. Numerous times last season, it was Falvo who came through for the Gee-Gees, helping lead the team with quarterback Brad Siniopoli to the team’s second Yates Cup final in three years. It is with these attributes of strength, skill, and determination that Falvo looks to create another all-star season.

Gee-Gees kicking coach David Miller-Johston, a former CFL-er himself, had this to say in a feature on Matt in the latest uOttawa football guide currently in production:

“Matt has done a great job evolving into the ideal and consummate CIS high-end athlete. He has really stepped up his post-season work. He works on improving physically and works on the position’s specific requirements all year.”

“He has every opportunity to be the best kicker in the country this year.”
