PROFILE

Entering his third season with the Bears, second as the starter, and final season of CIS eligibility, the gunslinger from Cochrane, Alta. is primed to lead the Golden Bears to their third straight Canada West playoff berth.  He threw for an average of 190 yards per game in 2010, while also totalling seven touchdowns and a 52.6 completion percentage in 2010, and 159 rushing yards in seven games.

At 6’4” and 215lbs, with a powerful arm, Marchand possess all the physical tools to be successful at the CIS level.  This former Canadian Junior Football League star got his start with the Calgary Dinos in 2007 when he was added to their roster late in the 2007 season, and helped guide the Dinos into the postseason by throwing for 511 yards and four TDs in three games.  He holds CJFL single-season records for attempts (331) and completions (197) and was the Calgary Colts MVP prior to joining the Golden Bears for the 2009 season.

Since re-entering the CIS in 2009, Marchand has played 16 games, including eight as the starter, for Alberta, throwing for 1,994 yards and 10 touchdowns.  He has completed 140 of his 263 attempts, while recording 216 yards on 36 rushing attempts.

During the 2010 playoffs he helped engineer one of the greatest comebacks in CIS football history, marching the Bears back from a 30-3 third quarter deficit in Saskatoon and on to a 31-30 semi-final win.  Marchand finished that playoff stunner having completed 25 of 41 passes for 309 yards and three touchdowns.
