Sinopoli, Taylor join Charbonneau Campeau as Hec Crighton nominees
OTTAWA (CIS) – Ottawa quarterback Brad Sinopoli and Saint Mary’s inside receiver and kick returner Jahmeek Taylor were announced as CIS football player of the year nominees, on Thursday.

announced as CIS football player of the year nominees, on

The OUA and AUS unveiled their season award winners with Sinopoli
and Taylor joining Sherbrooke wide receiver Simon Charbonneau
Campeau as finalists for the Hec Crighton trophy.
The Canada West recipients will be announced on Friday.
Charbonneau Campeau was named Quebec MVP on Monday when the QUFL
handed out its individual honours. The third-year engineering
student from St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que., set a single-season
conference record this fall with 1,121 receiving yards – the
second highest total in CIS history – while finishing third
in the country in receptions (55) and tying for the CIS lead in
touchdown catches (6). The No. 10-ranked Vert & Or (6-4) play
in their first-ever Dunsmore Cup final Saturday at Laval
(Radio-Canada, 12:30 p.m.)
Sinopoli, a fourth-year human kinetics student from Peterborough,
Ont., was sensational in his second campaign as the Gee-Gees’
starter. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound senior led the country in all
major passing categories including touchdowns (22), yards (2,756),
yards per game (344.5) and completions (184), and was also his
team’s top rusher with 534 yards on only 42 carries (12.7
yards per carry). He guided No. 4 Ottawa (8-1) to first place in
the OUA standings and an appearance in Saturday’s Yates Cup
final against Western (The Score, 1 p.m.).
Wilfrid Laurier linebacker Giancarlo Rapanaro (defensive MVP),
Queen’s linebacker Sam Sabourin (rookie of the year),
Queen’s offensive tackle Matt O’Donnell (outstanding
down lineman), Laurier receiver Dillon Heap (Russ Jackson award
nominee) and Western Ontario head coach Greg Marshall (coach of the
year) were also honoured by the OUA.
Taylor, a third-year arts student from Mississauga, Ont., did it
all this season for the No. 9 Huskies (5-3) in guiding them to the
top of the AUS standings and a spot in Saturday’s Loney Bowl
against Acadia (EastLink, 1 p.m. AST). The 5-foot-9, 170-pound
junior finished first in the nation with 1,439 all-purpose yards
including a CIS-leading 711 on punt returns, 332 on receptions, 246
rushing and 150 on only five kickoff returns (30.0-yard average).
He led the conference with seven all-purpose touchdowns, including
a CIS-leading three majors on punt returns.
St. Francis Xavier linebacker Henoc Muamba (defensive MVP), StFX
wide receiver Jordan Catterall (rookie of the year), Acadia
defensive end Adrian Saturley (outstanding down lineman), StFX
slotback Kwame Osei (Russ Jackson award nominee) and Mount Allison
head coach Kelly Jeffrey (coach of the year) were also honoured by
the AUS.
Following is the complete list of QUFL, OUA and AUS nominees for
the CIS football individual awards which will be presented in two
weeks in Quebec City as part as the Desjardins Vanier Cup
festivities. All awards will be handed out on Thursday, November
25, during the All-Canadian Banquet, with the exception of the
Frank Tindall trophy which will be presented to the coach of the
year on the Friday morning.
