Kicker Eeuwes leads Lancers past Varsity Blues

TORONTO – Windsor kicker Robert Eeuwes had a busy night as the visiting Windsor Lancers defeated the University of Toronto Varsity Blues 26-17 in front of crowd of 4,111 at Varsity Centre.

Eeuwes accounted for all but nine of Windsor’s points in the win, kicking five field goals of 20, 28, 30, 42 and 44 yards.  Fourth-year receiver Cory Fernandes opened the scoring with a 21-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Sam Malian on the Lancers first drive of the game.

Malian was 24-of-34 for 254 yards and one touchdown, while Jordan Brescacin made 13 catches for 118 yards.

A late comeback attempt in the fourth quarter saw both first-year receiver Alex Pierchalski and fourth-year linebacker-turned-receiver Rolli Adenmosun score their first career touchdowns on 28- and 55-yard receptions from Blues quarterback Jordan Scheltgen.

Scheltgen of Surrey, B.C. threw for 203 yards and two touchdowns, while third-year linebacker Wilkerson DeSouza had a game-high six solo tackles in the loss.

Next up for Toronto (0-2) is a visit to the No. 6 Wilfred Laurier Golden Hawks (0-2) next Saturday.  Windsor (1-1) travels to No. 8 Queen’s (0-1) on Sunday.
