The defeat at the hands of the #5 ranked Ottawa Gee Gees moves Windsor to 0-1 in conference play to start the year.

On Tuesday night, the game opened with both offenses looking to find their rhythm both on the ground and through the air.

After the teams exchanged two and outs to start, Ottawa quarterback Brad Sinopoli scrambled for a 75 yard run to set up the Gee Gees attack. He followed that up with a 17-yard touchdown pass to Matthew Bolduc to give Ottawa the early 7-0 lead.

Ottawa added another touchdown and a field goal on 296 yards of offense in the opening two quarters to take a 17-1 lead at the half.

In the second half, the Lancers showed some grit as quarterback Sam Malian led his team into the red zone late in the third quarter resulting in a 39 yard field goal by kicker Robert Eeuwes.

Eeuwes continued his solid night with his second field goal early in the fourth quarter to cut the Ottawa lead to 17-7.

Three minutes later, the Gee Gees added a field goal of their own, as Matthew Falvo knocked home a 47-yard field goal to restore their 13-point lead, 20-7.

Sam Malian refused to let his team go away, as he led a nine play, 95-yard charge down the field which was capped off by a 21-yard pass to receiver Jordan Brescacin. That score closed the gap to 20-14 with just 4:32 remaining in the game.

Ottawa was able to seal the victory in the dying seconds of the game, as a late third and one was converted to set up a Matthew Falvo field goal to make the final score 23-14.

In the defeat, Malian finished 24 of 38 for 273 yards and a touchdown. Cory Fernandes caught 8 passes for 113 receiving yards. Jordan Brescacin also hauled in 6 catches for 74 yards.

Windsor will now hit the road on Monday, September 6th for a Labour Day clash with the Toronto Varsity Blues in Toronto. Kick-off is set for 7pm at Varsity Stadium.
