POSITION: Events & Programs Officer
LOCATION: Ottawa (801 King Edward Avenue)

SUPERVISOR: Director of Events & National Championships

Job Summary:

Working alongside and reporting to the Director of Events & National Championships.
The Events & Programs Officer contributes to the success of CIS by providing national
championship support and leadership, and driving value to CIS Championship hosts and
members.

Key Responsibilities:
CIS national championship support.
Lead the development of on-line resources for event hosts.
CIS Awards and Honours.
Support for Sport Technical Committees.
Internal communications.

Work Demands:
This position requires the use of a vehicle for weekend work, frequent trips to attend
meetings and out of town travel (3-5 events/year). CIS will provide parking. Bilingualism
is preferred.

Salary range: $37,500-$42,500

Specific Duties:

CIS National Championship Support & Leadership:

a. Game Officials: coordinate assignment by liaising with Hosts and National Sport
Federations and coordinate travel by liaising with the CIS travel agent.
b. Awards: secure medals, trophies and awards and coordinate shipment to Hosts.
c. All-Canadians and Major Award winners: Coordinate logistics for the selection of
winners (use of on-line system), provide list to Manager of Communications,
coordinate preparation and ordering of awards (dry mounting and framing as
required) and gifts, and ship same to Hosts.
d. Monitoring, proofing and distribution of championship information bulletins.
e. Briefing Documents: prepare CIS delegates’ binders.
f. Championship Seeding: Schedule of championship seeding calls, co-ordinate the
technical criteria for seeding and draws of teams for CIS Championships and
communicate to CIS membership.
g. Game film exchange: Coordinate the exchange of game film for teams heading
into a CIS Championship.
h. Host Committee support (non-market driven championships).
i. Championship Bid Selection: assist with the administration of selection process,
organizing meetings and evaluation matrix and other background documents.
j. Assist Director of Events & National Championships with follow up on
championship contractual obligations (includes regular conference calls,
insurance, emergency response plans, convenor reports & financial statements).
k. Hosting Manuals: Assist Director of Events & National Championships in the
development of sport specific championship hosting manuals.
l. Development of on-line resource materials and sharing of best practises with
events hosts.
m. Championship Evaluation: gather and compile evaluation summaries.
n. Assist the Members Servicing Officer/Sponsor Servicing Officer with the
distribution of championship materials to each Championship Host (banners,
media kits, merchandise, certificates, branding materials, etc.).
o. Other Championship related support as assigned by Director of Events &
National Championships.

Award & Honours:
a. Coordinate logistics for all other CIS honours, such as BLG Awards, Top 8
Academic All-Canadians, Austin-Matthews Award, etc.

Sport Development:
a. Sport Technical Sub-Committees: Assist with the development of agendas,
preparation of background materials, meeting/conference call organization and
follow up action items for various Sport Technical Sub-Committees as assigned.

Other CIS responsibilities:
a. Working within a team environment to help foster the ongoing growth of the
CIS.
b. Staff appointed to work with Sport Committee, Sport Technical Sub-Committees
and Coaches Associations.
c. Serve on other CIS committees and task forces upon request.
